Why did Jesus enter Jerusalem on a donkey instead of a horse?

He entered Jerusalem on a donkey in Matthew 21:4-5 and John 12:14-15. For what reason did he choose a donkey? Why not a horse or sitting on a wagon with the donkey pulling it?
