Why did Jesus go to Bethlehem?

Hi, I'm busy doing bible studies, and I have many questions. One of them is: why did Jesus choose to go to Bethlehem of all places?

When reading the Christian Bible book Luke, it becomes clear that Joseph and Mary had to go back to Joseph’s ancestral hometown for a census, and this is where Jesus was born. The Bible never mentions whether Jesus went back to Bethlehem after that.
