How can I be content in Jesus?

What does it mean to be content in Jesus? How can I begin to find contentment in Him when things feel so bleak to me? Is it possible to rewire me and learn to be content?

You can be content in Jesus if you put your faith in Him and believe that he has a plan for you. Contentment is not going to come from the physical world, but rather from G_d and Jesus. Count your blessing and be content in knowing you have Jesus to thank for them.

You know something I can’t stand? It is how people talk about Jesus making them “happy.” I think it was CS Lewis who said something like Christianity is a lousy way to make yourself “happy.” A good cigar (book/drink/etc.) would do a better job.

That sounds disrespectful, but I think it is true; we cheat God sometimes by treating him like he’s just there to give us what we think we want. Instead, contentment (fulfillment, peace) comes from knowing when God does not spare us from the dark places, he goes into those dark places with us. When we are unhappy, God is there, perhaps even more powerful than when we are happy. Our God not only knows what our lives are like, knows our pain, because he sees it; in Jesus he lived our pain even to the point of the cross.

Maybe some days God will make you happy (and I hope he does) but contentment is knowing that God grieves with you, and in the bleak places you are not walking alone.

I doubt God will rewire you… more likely God will give you a ministry for who you are. Why should he rewire you? You are already a hand-crafted icon of his image!
