There is some debate over whether Jesus was a descendant of King David through his mother, father, or both. Mary’s parents were Anne and Joachim, the son of Panther, son of Levi, who was from the tribe of Nathan, King David’s son. Joseph is a descendant of David (Matthew 1:16), so Mary would be related by marriage.
