It was first built in 1654 over a medieval citadel. But during the 18th-century the church was destroyed twice and rebuilt twice. The current structure was completed in 1894 and renovated in 1903. Some remnants from the 13th-century citadel have survived and stand outside the church to the right of the sacristy.
