According to Bible scholars, the biblical symbolism of the west has both good and bad elements. The good element is that it points to unity with God. The children had to go through the west to access the tabernacle/temple. Abraham journeyed to Canaan after God’s instructed him to do so. The negative element is that the west often signifies the sea, referring to darkness, evil and death.
