What made Jesus go to the Garden of Gethsemane?
The Gospels Matthew and Mark depict Jesus going to the Garden of Gethsemane, also known as the Garden of Agony. If He knew that He was going to suffer in the garden, why did he go in the first place?

Jesus wanted a quiet place for contemplation and prayer so after the Last Supper He went to the nearby Garden of Gethsemane. Luke 22:44 tells us how Jesus’s agonising prayers caused his sweat to drop like blook on the ground (the garden is also known as the Garden of Agony). Christ’s betrayal by Judas and His subsequent arrest would have happened, whether it was in the garden or at a different location.

Gethsemane literally means the place of the olive oil press. Jesus went there to pray on the night before he was crucified.
The bigger question here is why Jesus, if he knew he was going to suffer (on the cross) willingly became incarnate in the first place. The answer is to fulfill God’s will for us, by becoming one of us and so identifying with us that he took on our sin, even though he had no sin. In other words, Jesus did what he did to set the whole of creation to rights for our sake.
