Ahasuerus, also known by other names such as the King of Persia and more common Xerxes the Great. It was this leader who had Daniel and his countrymen in slavery. Around 530BC he relinquished control of the Jews and allowed them to return to Isreal. (Books of Ezra and Daniel)
