Apparently, Jesus was crucified upside down? Why is that?

Crucifixion was a common practice of the roman empire dating back to the Babylonians. The main purpose was to sacrifice the condemned persons on display in such a way that they were humiliated while painfully dying. Upside down crucifixions were merely one of the more barbaric ways of executing people.
