It is believed that God had a unique relationship with Israel because there was a covenant between God and Abraham. This covenant can relate to a loving agreement between them. In Genesis 17:6-7, we read that God gave the land Canaan to Abraham.

God's Purpose for Israeli Descendants

It is said that God had an extraordinary purpose for the descendants of Israel. Isaiah 44:1 gives us a good idea of why Israel is considered to be the land of God.

According to the Bible (Deuteronomy 7:7-8; 9:6):

  • He allowed them to become the model nation of His way of life for all the nations so that all people could have his blessings.
  • He blessed Israel because of the faith and obedience of Abraham, but he made it clear it wasn’t because they were great or righteous.

God's Promise to Israel

In Genesis, God promised Abraham that he and his descendants for generations to come will live in the Promised Land (Genesis 12:1-2).

The Promised Land

From scripture, it is said that Israel is the promised land that we read about in Genesis 12:1-2.

Today Canaan is known as Israel (the Holy Land). Believers hold firm that God told Abraham that this is his everlasting promise to him and his descendants. That this promise does not only include receiving the Holy Land but also having many descendants.

In the End

The above shows that Christians believe that God did not only have a unique relationship with Israel, He had a very special plan for them. That, not only was Israel the Holy Land because that is where Jesus walked the earth, but also because it was said to be the promised land.
