The star of Bethlehem is one of the most recognized symbols in Christianity as it represents the hope that came with the birth of Jesus. It is also now used regularly as part of the Christmas traditions of placing the star on top of the tree.

What Does the Christmas Star Symbolize?

The Christmas Star or Star of Bethlehem represents the star that shone on the night that Jesus was born. Many believe that it symbolizes that Jesus is the light of the world and shining hope to mankind. It is the fulfillment of the star prophecy and the birth of Jesus.

The star of Bethlehem is shown in all nativity stories even though only the Gospel of Matthew mentions the star.

What Does the Bible Say About the Star of Bethlehem?

The star of Bethlehem is only mentioned once in the Bible. We read about this special appearance in Matthew 2:1-11. In this passage, we read about the Magi that came from the east and enquired about the birth of Jesus. They saw this new star rising and then went to the manger to worship him, one of the most important events in Jesus' life. Matthew described this star as unusual.

The star of Bethlehem was last seen in December 2020 and will most probably only be seen again in 800 years. Making it an unusual appearance and even more special.
