Mount Hermon is one of the first mountains mentioned in the Bible (Deuteronomy 3:8-9). The name Hermon comes from the root hrm and means sacred. Being the highest mountain in Israel, it is considered to be the holiest mountain in Israel. It was originally home to the Sidonians, who called it Mount Sirion.
