The city of Capernaum was named from two Hebrew words: ‘Kfar’ and ‘Nachum’. Kfar means village while Nachum is a man’s name. If you join the two parts of the word together, you will get ’Nachum’s village’. Capernaum was established during the time of the Hasmoneans, it was a fishing village.
