David was first anointed as King of Judah when Jonathan and Saul were killed in a battle. David was anointed king of the south while Ish-Bosheth who was Saul’s son was anointed king of the north. Ish-Bosheth was later killed in a civil war and the elders of Israel came together to anoint David as the king of Israel.
