Bible Scholars say that there were four different men called Herod in the Bible, and they were all descendants of the Herod dynasty.

1. Herod the Great

2. Herod Antipas

3. Herod Agrippa I

4. Herod Agrippa II

They all lived in different eras of the new testament. The most popular in the Bible is Herod Antipas, who lived in the time of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 2:16-18, he ordered the killing of all male children below the age of 2. In Matthew 6:14-29, King Herod executed John the Baptist, who was named the greatest prophet in the Bible. In Luke chapter 23, Herod played a role in Jesus death. Instead of asking for the truth, he told Jesus to perform a miracle and later sent him back to Pilate.

In Acts 12, Herod Agrippa I persecuted Christians: James was killed and Peter was imprisoned. Acts 26:1-29 records Paul’s defence before Herod Agrippa II.
