Shakshuka literally means mixed up! It is an easy-to-make, very flavoursome dish eaten for breakfast, lunch or even a light dinner. This popular Israeli dish, traditionally cooked in a cast iron pan, comes in many different versions. Israelis of all ethnic backgrounds eat shakshuka, each adding their own spices and ingredients. Shakshuka probably arrived in Israel with Tunisian-Libyan Jews, or Algerian, or Moroccan Jews. Shakshuka is a bit like Israel – a mix of so many different ethnic groups!
