The land Canaan was promised to the Israelites in the Bible. The Israelites journeyed from Egypt to Canaan, and Canaan became their permanent settlement. Canaan was situated in the territory of the Southern Levant, which comprises present-day Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Jordan, and the Southern portions of Syria and Lebanon.
