Where does Bethlehem olive wood come from?

Asked 3 years ago

Hi, I'm considering getting an olive wood cross from the Holy Land. In the description, they say it's made from Bethlehem olive wood. Does that mean the wood comes from Bethlehem itself?

Olive wood is native to Israel. Some olive trees date back 5000 years, like the oldest tree in Bethlehem. In the Holy Land, it is illegal to cut down the olive trees. When woodcarvers use olive wood, they use the prunings of the trees. Meaning they cut off branches and not the whole tree.
